Sean has been a dedicated culinary expert with over a decade of experience in both the restaurant and healthcare industries. Sean’s culinary journey began at the age of 14 when he started cooking at a the local Roadside establishment. His love for food management was further nurtured while managing his high school’s cooking class, and it wasn’t long before he fell in love with the culinary arts. After gaining valuable experience at Ruttger’s Bay Lake Lodge, where he mentored under seasoned chefs and worked his way up to Executive Chef, Sean developed a deep understanding of various cuisines, specialized diets, and the importance of customer service. In the off-season, he expanded his experience by working at multiple restaurants and eventually landed his first management position at the Quarterdeck in Nisswa. There, he discovered his passion for the regulatory side of the culinary world.
Sean transitioned to the healthcare industry, joining his sister at Golden Horizons back in 2021. For the past four years, he has served as the Culinary Director, where he specializes in creating appealing, nutritious meals tailored to diverse medical diets. Sean’s philosophy is simple: food should always taste great and look inviting, no matter the dietary requirements. He takes great pride in crafting enticing, personalized dishes for each individual, ensuring that health and enjoyment go hand in hand.
Sean’s leadership extends beyond the kitchen—he works closely with his team of culinary experts, including his Assistant Culinary Director, Travis Modl, who has been by his side for over 15 years. Together, they have built a solid, professional partnership, working in every establishment together. This close collaboration contributes to the success of Golden Horizons’ culinary operations. In addition, Sean’s brother, Travis “String Bean,” joined the team at Golden Horizons the same year, further strengthening the family connection within the organization.
As a proactive and community-focused leader, Sean is deeply engaged with the resident council, helping to design and create a farm-to-table, seasonal menu tailored to the specific tastes and needs of the residents. He values their input and strives to create dishes that reflect their preferences while meeting their dietary requirements. Today, Sean continues to combine his culinary expertise with his commitment to health and well-being, ensuring that every meal served contributes to the wellness of the residents he serves.
